Wellesley lawns are big, visible and expected to look a certain way, which makes irrigation the center of everything here. A half-acre or acre of open turf in Wellesley Hills or off Washington Street will not carry itself through a New England August on rainfall, and hand watering that much lawn isn't realistic for anyone. Most Wellesley properties already have a sprinkler system, and most of those systems are old enough to have developed habits: a zone that doesn't come on, heads sunk below grade after years of topdressing, a controller programmed by whoever owned the house two owners ago, and run times that were set for spray heads and never adjusted for the rotors that replaced them. Layer on the seasonal watering restrictions the town puts in place during dry summers and you need a system that's actually dialed in, not just running.
