A lot of Ashland's housing stock went up during the building waves of the 1980s through the early 2000s, and those neighborhoods share a common story underground. The land was cleared and graded, the good soil got scraped off, and the lawn was installed on a thin layer of loam sitting on top of compacted subsoil and construction fill. Twenty years later that's the lawn we're called out to look at: decent-looking in spring, failing in patches by mid-July, and impossible to keep green no matter how much water goes on it. Ashland also has real topography. The ground rolls hard between the Sudbury River corridor and the higher neighborhoods, so runoff is a factor, and a sloped Ashland lawn will dry at the top and stay wet at the bottom on the same irrigation zone if nobody thought about it during the install.

Lawn renovation is the service we do most in Ashland, and it's the one that actually addresses the soil. Core aeration pulls plugs out of that compacted layer, topdressing with compost adds organic matter back where the builder took it away, and slice seeding in late summer puts new grass into contact with soil instead of thatch. Where a lawn is too far gone for that, sod installation with proper tilling and grading beneath it gives Ashland homeowners a finished lawn and a better root zone at the same time. We also install irrigation systems designed around Ashland's slopes, with separate zones for high and low ground, and handle startups, blowouts and repairs on existing systems. Weekly lawn mowing, mulching and lawn repair round out what we do around town.

The reason to call C Tetrault Landscaping for an Ashland property is that we'll dig into the soil before quoting the grass. A screwdriver test and a look at the root depth tells us more than a color chart, and it's the difference between a lawn that holds up for years and one that needs the same repair every spring. Chuck started the company in 2020, does every estimate himself, and won't sell you sod when aeration and seed would do the job. Veterans get 10% off. If your Ashland lawn keeps failing in the same spots, call (857) 767-6698 and let's find out why.
